New Castle County Head Start, Inc. is now hiring for the following positions: 

Teacher - Bachelor Degree with concentration in Early Childhood Education/ Child Developmennt OR Bachelor Degree in related field with/plus 15 credits in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. 

  • Related field means: elementary education, special education, and family studies
  • 15 credits: may be included within degree or as additional   college course work 

Compensation - $15.97 per hour minimum (BA degree)

                          $17.35 per hour minimum (MA degree)


Teacher Assistant - CDA Certification OR Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development OR Associate Degree in related field with/plus 12 credits in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.

Compensation - $8.69 per hour (CDA)

                          $9.17 per hour (AA degree)

                          $9.91 per hour (BA degree)


Classroom Aide - High School Diploma or GED and at least one of the following early childhood credentials:

  • TECE 1 Credential
  • Delaware First Early Childhood Assistant Teacher Credential
  • University of Delaware CDA 1 and 2 Credential

Compensation - $8.40 per hour (HS/GED with TECE I)

                          $8.54 per hour (CDA)

                          $8.96 per hour (AA/BS/MS)

New Castle County Head Start, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization devoted to promoting the school readiness of children ages birth to 5 years from income eligible families in New Castle County, Delaware. The agency provides excellence in early childhood education and supportive services to help families achieve self-sufficiency. Head Start embraces diversity and welcomes children and families of all backgrounds and abilities including those with special needs.

Since 1977, nearly 20,000 at-risk children have benefitted from New Castle County Head Start, Inc.'s comprehensive early childhood program at no cost to families. The program is funded through grants from the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, Delaware Department of Education, community partners and private donors.
